Five Coping Skills for Managing Anxiety

The key for coping in the moment when anxiety is spinning out of control is to develop a skillset. Here are five skills to help reduce your anxieties today:

  1. Time out - Meditate, listen to music, take a walk to step away from the problem, and clear your head.

  2. Talk to someone - Call a friend to share your feelings.

  3. Write it out - Journaling can help when feeling stressed and can help discover a pattern to any triggers.

  4. Breathe - Follow the breath pattern in and out for a minute.

  5. Identify and challenge cognitive distortions - Examine your habitual ways of thinking that are negatively biased.
